Documentary is an exciting and versatile film genre that is thriving across multiple platforms. Once primarily used for TV capturing, it is now functional, creative, and fun, taking on many forms — from news, feature-length documentaries to short-form content for social media.
Guided by a feature film director with over 20 years of industry experience, you’ll gain insider knowledge, hands-on skills, and creative confidence — all in a supportive and engaging learning environment. You’ll explore different styles and techniques, learning how to develop, film, and craft compelling stories. Most importantly, this course will help you discover your unique voice and find your own path as a documentary filmmaker.
Day 1: Discover & Develop

Introduction to different forms and styles of documentary: From observational to creative, feature-length to social media shorts — discover how documentaries shape media, influence audiences, and impact the world.

Understand the process: Learn key roles, the development journey, and how a documentary is brought from concept to final cut.

Develop your idea: Turn inspiration into a strong, attention-grabbing concept.

Bring your vision to life: Transform your idea into a script, prepare your shot list, storyboard, and mood board.

Master the camera: Get hands-on with DSLR operation (Panasonic/Sony), tripod techniques, and essential sound and lighting skills.

Learn interview techniques: Capture authentic stories using insider tips for both traditional and independent styles.
Day 2: Shoot & Create

On-set experience: Learn how to set up and run a film shoot while understanding every role on set.

Directing interviews like a pro: Gain practical, insider secrets to get the best performances from your subjects.

Hands-on filming: Work in pairs to shoot your own documentary segment, bringing your story to life on camera.

Edit your project: Use industry-standard software (Adobe Premiere Pro) to craft your final film, shaping it into a polished, professional piece.
By the end of the course, you’ll walk away with your very own 2-minute documentary— developed, shot, and edited entirely by you!
